During pregnancy, there are different types of supplements are recommended for the health of the fetus in the womb. One is fish oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids. You may often hear, diligent in taking fish oil supplements will improve vision baby to be born. However, recent research from Australia was denied.

According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the consumption of DHA in infants who were born just months, both before and after birth, do not give a significant impact on its visual capabilities. One of the reasons presented by the researchers is that this baby is getting what it needs while still in the womb.

"If the mother is in pretty good nutrition and always had nutritious food, a DHA supplement during pregnancy to improve the visual abilities of babies in the stomach is not really necessary," said Dr Maria Makrides, head of research of the Women's and Children's Health Research Institute in North Adelaide, Australia.

Without taking fish oil supplements, intake of DHA can already be obtained through the daily diet, such as from salmon, mackerel, and tuna.

While previous studies have reported an additional provision of DHA advocated for infants born prematurely to help improve eyesight. This is because the supply of DHA is essential for brain development and visual power is usually transmitted from mother to baby in the final months of pregnancy. When the baby was born prematurely, he automatically will not get adequate intake of DHA, so it took a special supplement.
